Former One Direction member Zayn Malik has given his first interview being a solo artist, discusses his songs and factors behind quitting One Direction word by word.
"A big a part of why I left this rock band is I made the realization which it wasn't actually about [being the most important] anymore," he told Fader about quitting recording. "It wasn't in regards to the amount of tickets sales that I get. It was more in regards to the people that I reach. I want to reach them properly, and I desire them to believe what I'm saying. I've done enough regarding financial backing that i can live comfortably. I just want to create music now." Check Ed Sheeran Shape of You sheet music page.
When dealing with One Direction Infinity sheet music, Malik noted that she felt restrained creatively within the group, not able to flex his wishes to veer towards an even more R&B sound. "If I would sing a hook or maybe a verse slightly R&B, or slightly myself, it'd always be recorded 50 times until there were a straight version that's pop, generic as fuck, in order that they could use that version," he revealed. "I wasn't completely behind the songs. It wasn't me. It was music that's already presented to us, so we were told itrrrs this that is going to sell to that they. As much as we had arrived the biggest, most well-known boy band on earth, it felt weird. We were advised to be happy about something we weren't happy about."
Malik, that has been using the services of Frank Ocean's producer Malay on his as-yet-untitled solo debut, made clear which he was not an enormous fan of his former group's sound, which is veering more towards classic rock and folk influences in the last few albums. "That's not music I would hear," he tells of the boy band. "Would you focus on One Direction with a party using your girl? I wouldn't. Check One Direction Infinity chords here. To me, this is not an insult, that's me to be a 22-year-old man. As much as I was in this band, and I loved all that we did, that is not music that I would focus on. I want to produce music that I think is cool shit. I don't think that's excessive to ask for."
In an accompanying video using the cover story, Malik previews new song "Befour," while using track suggesting a hazy, Weeknd-influenced R&B sound. He describes the_ album as diverse, sending the article author a letter that doubles because the album's mission statement following their interview. "I can map every lyric and each and every note to mean something in my opinion," he wrote about his solo debut. "It's a snapshot of gaming and the thoughts on gaming, my hopes, my aspirations, and my regrets during the summer of 2015."
Last Friday, One Direction Infinity released their fifth album, Made in the A.M. Malik has yet to disclose when his first single or full album will debut.
