In a nod towards representation and inclusion, three black female performers from three generations some of the attractions confirmed for that opening ceremony with the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, that can take place in three days’ time for the famous Maracanã stadium.
The show, containing creative direction from Brazilian directors Fernando Meirelles (City of God), Andrucha Washington and Daniela Thomas, begins at 8pm (local time) which is expected to remain visible by three billion people around the globe. Check Katy Perry Rise music notes here.
Legendary singer Elza Soares is going to be representing Rio's most popular musial genre, samba, while Karol Conka and MC Soffia will likely be the voice of Brazil’s hiphop scene, whose messages of empowerment are going to echo well after dark walls on the stadium.musicnotesworld.com/katy-perry-rise/
São Paulo girl MC Soffia, who's just 12 years, took myspace by storm back with her music videos that speak out against racism, including her song “Menina Pretinha”. More sheet music here.
"I chose rap since you can express yourself, tell people what you really are feeling, mention the reality you might be living. But I do like other types too," said the youthful rapper.
Conka, from southern city Curitiba, shot to fame after her track “Tombei” (2014) became a hit if it was used because opening music for Globo TV series “Chapa Quente.”
Pop music and funk melody (a lighter version of baile funk) is going to be provided thanks to Ludmilla. Hailing from Rio suburb city Duque de Caxias, the singer designed a huge following after her anthem “Fala Mal de Mim” first hit airwaves in 2012.
Last month she carried the Olympic torch in Florianopolis as well as gave an impromptu performance to her fans. “I think it’s great we don’t only have superstars within the ceremony. We have popular culture also,” director Fernando Meirelles told Rio2016.com.
Among the superstars confirmed are two with the country’s most well-known singers, Gilberto Gil and Caetano Veloso have been notoriously exiled from Brazil during its military dictatorship. The pair will do alongside Carioca songstress and current national sensation Anitta after her three hit albums since 2013.
“It was Caetano’s idea to own Anitta, he considers her an incredible singer. We were really astounded by her, she gets an amazing technique and her delivery is beautiful,” Meirelles said.
World famous supermodel Gisele Bündchen is likewise making a look and feel, where she will catwalk when in front of her biggest audience ever. Brazilian model Lea T, who may have appeared in many campaigns and also on the cover of numerous magazines, is going to be the first transgender person to possess a major role with an Olympic opening ceremony – even though the exact information of her participation remains unknown. “The message is going to be clear: inclusion.
All of people, outside of gender, sexual orientation, colour, race or creed, are typically human beings and they are part of this society. My role inside the ceremony is tiny but is going to be significant for representation, and can help to transmit this message (of inclusion)," Lea T said within an interview with BBC Brasil.
